Who We Are

The Canadian Retinoblastoma Society (CRBS) is a federally incorporated charitable organization. We are run by a team of committed volunteers for the benefit of Canadians affected by retinoblastoma. We are the only charity in Canada dedicated exclusively to education, advocacy, and support for Canadian retinoblastoma families. Everyone on our Board of Directors has a personal connection to retinoblastoma. For more information on our Board of Directors click here.
While not directly affiliated with any particular doctor, hospital or program, the CRBS is proud to count many of Canada's retinoblastoma specialists as members. We maintain an open relationship with all of these professionals and collaborate with them on many projects.

What We Do

Education and support

The CRBS is committed to increasing awareness of retinoblastoma and its long-term health implications, among affected families, the medical profession and the general population. Early detection is key to saving vision, eyes and lives; only through increased awareness will this be possible.

As a means of supporting families experiencing retinoblastoma, the Society operates a Family Support Network. The Network is comprised of parents who have a child with retinoblastoma and people who themselves have had retinoblastoma, who are willing to share their knowledge and experiences with other families.  For more information on this program, please click here.

Advocacy

The Society believes that all Canadian families, regardless of where they reside, are entitled to have access to the best care possible. To this end, the Society fully supports families' efforts to access such care.
The Society is playing an active leadership role in Canada's National Retinoblastoma Strategy. The Strategy involves ophthalmologists, oncologists, social workers, geneticists, parents, patients and others from across Canada, who seek together the best possible opportunities for Canadian retinoblastoma patients and their families.
A cornerstone of the Strategy is the Canadian Guidelines for Retinoblastoma Care. This project is soon to be published. It is the combined work of 54 Canadians and international reviewers. It will be freely available to other countries, who can adopt these guidelines for their own use and circumstances.

Publications

The Society publishes a newsletter (CRBS in Sight) that is available to all Society members free of charge. To view the most recent issue click here.

Events

The Society organizes periodic conferences, meetings, and picnics. Please see our News & Events section for the most up to date information.

Research

The Society promotes and supports new research initiatives that may be of benefit to our members. In the last several years we have contributed over $70,000 to retinoblastoma research.
We strive to remain informed with respect to the best practices for treatment of retinoblastoma as well as the long-term health issues associated with retinoblastoma.

Donations

We accept charitable donations in support of our objectives and areas of interest. Should you wish to make a donation please access our website's donation page.
